Background
1. The Appellant filed his RTI application dt.30.3.09 with the CPIO, DoP,
Gopalganj requesting for information against 14 points with regard to the all
the RD accounts opened in the post office including the dates on which the
accounts were opened, names of the depositors, amounts deposited, dates of
maturity, when they are expected to redeem the amounts etc. The CPIO
transferred the request to a Complaint Inspector on 9.4.09 to provide the
information. The Complaint Inspector responded on 27.4.09 to the CPIO
while providing point wise information which was forwarded to the Applicant
on the same day. Not satisfied with the reply, the Applicant filed an appeal
dt.4.5.09 with the Appellate Authority stating that he has received only partial
information. On not receiving any reply from the Appellate Authority, the
Applicant filed a second appeal dt.27.6.09 before the CIC.
2. The Bench of Mrs. Annapurna Dixit, Information Commissioner, scheduled the
hearing for October 27, 2009.
3. Shri Sudarshan Prasad, CI representing CPIO represented the Public
Authority.
4. The Applicant was not present during the hearing.
Decision
5. The Commission after careful consideration of the RTI request and the reply
provided by the CPIO holds that information sought is indeed personal in
nature and denies disclosure u/s 8(1)(j) as it would cause unwarranted
invasion of the privacy of the individuals and also since the disclosure has no
relationship with any public activity or interest.
6. The appeal is accordingly disposed of.
