Information Sought:
The Appellant has sought information in reference to his Accounts in the Goregaon Branch (West).
Savings Account No. (i) SB 494 & (ii) SB 13434 Current account No. (i) 1741 & (ii) 168. He has
asked for the Serial No. of Pay Orders/Demand Drafts issued to various persons/ institutions and their
names for the period from 01/01/1999 to 01/12/2000.
Reply of PIO:
The information sought is for years 1999 and 2000. As per the Bank's policy, the documents asked for
are retained for a maximum of 8 years only and then are destroyed. Hence, the same cannot be
provided.
Grounds for the First Appeal:
The Appellant was not satisfied with the information provided by the PIO. He has also argued that he
was not seeking copies of the documents which the PIO has stated have been destroyed. The
information could be provided from the registers which are not destroyed. He had also stated that he
had not been given the copy of the Banker's Policy and instructions issued. He has furnished the 15
digit account numbers.

No order.
Ground of the Second Appeal:
The Appellant did not receive any order from the FAA.
Relevant Facts
emerging during Hearing:
Both the parties were given an opportunity for hearing. However, neither party appeared. From a
perusal of the papers it appears that the Appellant believes that the registers of Accounts are
maintained for 20 years and the information which he is seeking can be provided from these registers.
If the registers are available the PIO must provide the information to the Appellant from these. If
however the registers have been destroyed this should be stated.
Decision:
The Appeal is allowed.
The PIO is directed to provide the information as directed above to the Appellant
before 25 September 2011.

Notice of this decision be given free of cost to the parties.
Any information in compliance with this Order will be provided free of cost as per Section 7(6) of RTI Act.
