Facts
:
1. The appeal was scheduled for hearing on 9th June, 2010, but the appellant
did not avail of the opportunity of personal hearing. The appeal is therefore
examined on merit.
2. In response to the RTI application for information relating to the successful
candidates, who were selected for the post of Junior Officers, the CPIO has
furnished partial information. While the remaining information, relating to the
merit list of the candidates was refused on the ground that the information relate
to third parties. Being dissatisfied with CPIO’s response, the appellant has
pleaded for providing the complete information.
Decision:
3. The information asked for, mainly the list of the successful candidates can
not be treated as third party information, since the information pertains to an
important activity pertaining to the recruitment process of staff. The denial of

information u/s 8 (1) of the Act is therefore unjustified. The CPIO is directed to
furnish the information asked for, mainly the merit list of the successful
candidates within 15 days from the date of receipt of this decision, failing which
penalty proceedings u/s 20 (1) of the Act would be initiated.
4. With these observations, this appeal is disposed of.
