Amit has remanded by the local court, who is one of the three involved in murder of two Dalits in Rohtak’s Madina village, to six days of police custody. While the Special Investigation Team had arrested Amit from Jind on Monday, the two other accused — Mandip and Bhumi — are still absconding.

The Haryana Police had booked 18 people, mostly Jats, for killing Sudhir (10) and his cousin Vikram (22) last Saturday. The shootout was allegedly the result of an old enmity between Jat and Dalit families living in the village. Both had been accusing each other of harassing women and girls by passing lewd remarks.

During preliminary interrogation, Amit had confessed to having shot dead Sudhir and Vikram while another youth, Sandeep, sustained a bullet injury. The accused had purchased country made weapons from Uttar Pradesh and used the same to shoot the victims, who were working in the fields, said police sources.

Around eight teams have been constituted under the SIT to investigate the case.
