Calcutta High Court denies Permission to BJP’s Rath Yatra in Bengal’s Cooch Behar

KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday  6 December, denied permission to the BJP for a ‘rath yatra’ which was scheduled to take place from Cooch Behar district on Friday. BJP chief Amit Shah was to flag off the mega rally that was supposed to cover a number of districts across the state.

The single bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty Thursday observed that reports need to be sought from all Superintendents of Police in the state by December 21 to it on the holding of ‘rath yatra’ rallies by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said the party has moved forward in consultation with police, and that they will follow the judgement that comes on Friday, 7 December. Earlier the West Bengal government is denying our right to hold rath yatra on the pre-text of fictitious police report claiming that the yatra may disrupt communal harmony.
