PATHANKOT: The family of the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Kathua withdrawn J&K lawyer Deepika Rajawat as his counsel saying she seldom appeared for hearings in the case, officials informed on Thursday.

The plea was moved Wednesday by the family before the court of district and sessions judge here which is hearing the case day-to-day following directions from the Supreme Court. The father claimed that Rajawat has appeared in the case only two or three times even though proceedings in the matter are being held on a day-to-day basis for the past five months.

The court has issued notice to Rajawat, asking her to respond to the plea moved by her clients by November 20, officials said. Rajawat while talking to news agency said she was taken aback by the decision. She, however, said there were three senior public prosecutors appearing for the prosecution and the case is safe in their hands. The Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has arrested eight people, including a juvenile in the case.
