Two independent candidates who contested Tmail Nadu by elections against AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa have contested her election to the assembly in the Madras High Court.

The Tamil Nadu chief minister served a notice seeking her explanation by the high court, as were Election Commission of India, state Chief Electoral Officer and the Returning Officer. Advocate T Suresh, whose nomination papers for the June 27 last bypoll to R K Nagar constituency were rejected, challenged the elections that gave Jayalalithaa a landslide victory and ensured her reentry into the assembly in June.

The second petition was filed by social activist ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy. But it could not be heard after the court was told of his ill-health. The petition will be held in three weeks’ time.

Kumar claimed his candidate was unfairly rejected despite being eligible and following mandate procedure.

Jayalalithaa, who returned as Chief Minister in May last after being acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in a graft case, had won the by election by more than1.5 lakh votes in June.
