A fast track court of Muzaffarnagar has directed a man to pay Rs one lakh compensation to his wife in a domestic violence case.
Judge Punam Rajput yesterday allowed a petition by Fatima challenging a 2008 order by a lower court rejecting her complaint for lack of evidence.
According to the victim’s lawyer Chavi Rani Tomar, the accused along with his parents tortured Fatima for dowry and also wanted a male child. The couple were married in 2002.
Tomar said that Fatima left her husband’s house few months after the marriage due to the constant torture at home.
She has been living at her parents’ house in Khujerda village, the lawyer said.
Fatima’s appeal in the case was rejected by a lower court in 2008 over lack of evidence, following which she approached the fast track court.
The judge directed the husband Furkan to pay Rs 1 lakh to Fatima within two months of the order.
