A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to life term by a court here for raping a hearing and speech impaired woman.
According to the prosecution, Srirangan had taken land for lease in Chennampatty forest area in Bhavani taluk in Erode district and raped the 30-year-old woman who was working there on October 2, 2009.
He also allegedly raped her several times after that, promising that he would marry her.
She became pregnant and delivered a baby boy. Her family asked Srirangan to marry her but on his refusal, they lodged a complaint with police.
Hearing the case yesterday, Erode Mahila Court judge N. Thirunavukkarasu sentenced him to life.
