Supreme Court, brings up top NRC officials, for speaking to media

NEW DELHI: Two senior civil servants pulled up by The Supreme Court, speaking to the media about Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) without informing the court. The apex court said, that you do not forget that you are a court employee, it is your duty to obey orders. So how did you go directly to the media in such a way? The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the two officials for the contempt of court.

Prateek Hajela, NRC coordinator, and Sailesh, Registrar General and Census Commissioner came under radar of the apex court when who goes by one name, from speaking to the media about NRC, warning them they could be held guilty of contempt.

Mr. Hajela came in the middle of a huge political storm, triggered by the exclusion of 40 lakh people from the draft list.  The court said that your job is to prepare the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) and not to go to the Press holding brief for anybody,” added judges, holding up a copy of the daily.
