New Delhi, India 27/01/2015 – Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, and the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), announced today the second expert-led online classroom lecture series on contract drafting. The three month certification program is designed to meet the learning needs of today’s law students and managers in legal, operations, finance, HR, purchasing and business development functions. The first program was a runaway success with more than two hundred registrations.

The Foundational and Advanced lecture series is offered as an online skill development program. It meets the learning needs of law students and professionals through work based scenarios, simulations and case studies. The live virtual sessions are led by legal practitioners and senior specialists in Indian law. These experts have worked for renowned global and Indian law firms, and have many years of experience.

“An understanding of the nuances of contractual arrangements is an essential skill for today’s legal and business professionals,” said Arvind Pachhapur, country head for the India Legal and Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters. “Writing a perfect contract involves determining and preempting the problems that might come up in relation to the contract, and mitigating those risks through practical knowledge. This online lecture series, co-developed by Thomson Reuters and SILF, covers a wide variety of contracts and is designed to provide advanced drafting knowledge,” he added.

“The Lecture Series on Contract Drafting is a step taken by SILF to help its member firms & legal employers access a trained pool of students having pre-exposure to practical skills of drafting, negotiations and dispute resolution,” said Lalit Bhasin, President & Chairman, The Society of Indian Law Firms.

According to Mr. Bhasin, there is a huge pendency of cases in Indian courts, and an immediate need to propagate inclusion of arbitration clauses in contracts. “The lecture series covers all contemporary topics like arbitration and is being delivered by practitioners having many years of experience,” he added.
