A woman has been sentenced to six months in jail for possessing 15 grams of heroin by a Delhi court.

Special Judge M K Nagpal gave her milder punishment saying she has to take care of her three minor children, including an four-month-old infant, who has been living with her in custody since her arrest in October this year.

“Keeping in view her age and the fact that she herself voluntary pleaded guilty at initial stage of (framing of) charge itself and is also having a four-month-old boy with her in custody, the court is taking a lenient view against her and she is being sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment,” the court said, while also imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 on her.

Delhi resident Mohinoor was arrested by police on October 13 this year for possessing drugs for selling them without any permit and licence.

The Defence Colony police had filed the charge sheet against her in the court, which had formally framed charges under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Mohinoor, however, pleaded guilty before the court and had not claimed trial in the case.

The court also noted that apart from three minors, the woman also has two major off-springs, who live separately from her and do not financially support her.
