Woman raped repeatedly in Mumbai after being promised job

A 23-year-old woman, who came to Mumbai in search of a job was allegedly raped repeatedly for nearly a year by a 57-year-old man in Arnala locality of Virar here, rural police said today. According to API N K Jangam of Virar police station, the victim landed in the house of the accused, Tejpal Singh in October 2013 and lived there after he promised to get her a job. During the stay, the man, an engineer hailing from Uttar Pradesh repeatedly abused the young woman but did nothing to find her employment. After a complaint by the victim recently, offences were registered under sections 376 and 506 of the IPC against him and he was arrested, police added.

  1. The woman willingly and for her selfish motive of getting a job slept with the job-giver. This means if she had been given the job, the sexual act would not have been rape. None forced her and she engaged in sexual act on er own and more importantly,at her own risk. Even if there was a mutual agreement of ‘Job-for-sex’ between the two, it is unenforceable in law.
