Allahabad High Court issued a show cause notice to Uttar Pradesh DGP Vikram Singh, directing him to appear in person on September 9 and explain why charges for wilful disobedience of a court order not be framed against him.

The order was passed by Justice Sabhajeet Yadav on a contempt petition filed by a Police Sub-Inspector Umesh Chandra Pandey. The contempt petition was filed alleging non-compliance of an earlier order, whereby the DGP had been directed to consider the claim of the petitioner for out-of-turn promotion to the post of an Inspector.

Passing the order on the contempt petition, the court observed, “The DGP has prima facie tried to circumvent the order dated 01.10.2007, which amounts to contempt of court”.
