The Applicant filed an RTI application on 24.9.09 wanting to know why the new Smart Token Cards have been issued only for 5 years and who has authorized this unwarranted change, which would be very inconvenient for the Senior Citizens for reissue/revalidation of the cards once it is expired after 5 years. The PIO replied on 5.11.09 stating that no decision has been taken to curtail the ‘whole life’ duration of pensioners CGHS card, for those who have deposited a lumpsum contribution for 10 years. The five years validity indicated on plastic card is only technical in nature and that the issue raised by him has already been explained/clarified vide Ministry’s OM.
