2. We   heard   this   case   through   video   conferencing.   The   Appellant   was 

present before us in our chamber while the Respondent was present in the 

Mumbai studio of the NIC. We heard their submissions.

3. The   Appellant   had   wanted   to   know   the   details   about   the   currency 

printed/issued  by  the  RBI  from  1938  onwards.  The  CPIO  had  provided  the 

information with effect from 1950­51 onwards only. The Appellate Authority had

endorsed the information provided by the CPIO.

4. During   the   hearing,   the   Respondent   submitted   that   the   RBI   had 

maintained records about the printing/issue of currency only with effect from 

1950 onwards and did not have any information for the period prior to that. The 

Appellant was not satisfied and insisted that it was unlikely that the RBI should 

not have records of the currency it had issued at any time.

5. We think that it would be appropriate if the CPIO would make one more 

effort   to   locate   the   information   for   the   period   between   1938   and   1950. 

Therefore, we direct him to make a renewed search for this information and, if 

found, to provide to the Appellant within 20 working days from the receipt of this 

order. However, if the information is not available in spite of the search, he shall 

inform the Appellant accordingly.

6. The appeal is, thus, disposed off.

7. Copies of this order be given free of cost to the parties.
