Need To Accord Sanction To The Proposal Of Government Of Kerala For … on 23 July, 2002

Title: Need to accord sanction to the proposal of Government of Kerala for construction of a new international terminal at Trivandrum, Kerala – Laid.

SHRI V.S. SIVAKUMAR

(THIRUVANATHAPURAM) : The construction of a new international terminal at Trivandrum was initiated by Airport Authority of India to meet the further traffic requirements. The foundation stone for the project was laid on June, 2000 by the then Civil Aviation Minister. However, the Airport Authority of India requested their inability to take up the work due to fund constraint. Subsequently, the State Government had agreed to take up the work mobilising internal resources. The Kerala Government started necessary land acquisition and other preparatory work. But now the State Government is facing crucial financial crisis and hence I request the Minister to entrust the work of Airport Authority of India so that the project is completed without further delay. The State Government already sent a similar request to the Civil Aviation Ministry. The State Government is ready to complete the land acquisition as soon as the Project is started by Airport Authority of India.

The Airport Authority of India had issued in principle clearance for the above Project. Now, the Kerala Government has sought for the final clearance of the Project, I request the Government to issue the final clearance at the earliest.
