Regarding Increasing Abductions In The Country. on 30 August, 2001

Title: Regarding increasing abductions in the country.

SHRI ADHIR CHOWDHARY (BERHAMPORE, WEST BENGAL): Sir, the number of abductions has been increasing by leaps and bounds in India. It is an area of major concern. The international mafia groups and their Indian subordinates have discovered that abduction and ransom money is the easiest way of making fortune. Very recently those mafia gangs have shifted the area of operation in my State, West Bengal. The sequences of abductions in West Bengal have already raised an alarm and particularly the business community is in jitters. Taking advantage of the poor vigilance on those groups, the syndrome which was non existent till the other day has been spreading and they have converted West Bengal as the green pastures for carrying out abductions and nefarious activities. … (Interruptions)

MR. DEPUTY-SPEAKER: Please ask as to what do you want the Central Government to do.

SHRI ADHIR CHOWDHARY : Yes sir. Unlike Maharashtra, there are no stringent laws existing in West Bengal. Therefore, I would like to urge upon the Central Government that in consultation with the State Government, they should devise a mechanism so that those internationalmafia can be dealt with sternly. Thank you.
