The Madras High Court today in the evening in a full court meeting Chaired by Chief Justice H. L. Gokhale announced that its judges would declare their assets before 31 October 2009. The meeting decided that the details of the assets would be soon submitted to the Chief Justice.
The details would be also avilable on the official website of Madras High Court .
Now Madras High Court would become the fifth in the country to make public the assets of its judges. All the High Court Judges who participated in the meeting, debated the issue and took the decision to disclose their assets.
The judges of Delhi, Kerala and Punjab and Haryana High Courts had already decided to disclose their assets on their websites. The Registrar General of the Kerala High Court has even specified that the details would be posted on the website on September 30.
The Supreme Court’s 1997 resolution on declaration of assets, circulated to all High Courts, was adopted by the Madras High Court only in 2008.
