Background
1. The Applicant filed an RTI application dt.27.2.09 with the CPIO, DoP,
Gorakhpur. He requested for information against 5 points related to specific
letters and supervisory certificates available with the office of PMG, Gorakhpur
region. The CPIO replied on 20.3.09 directing the Appellant to get the
information from various offices from where information is available.
Aggrieved with this reply, the Applicant filed a complaint dt.2.5.09 before CIC
stating that the information provided by the PIO is incorrect and that the
information is available with the office of Postmaster General, Gorakhpur
region, Gorakhpur. He also stated that in case of information sought against
point 5 of his application, the date of endorsement was given by him
inadvertently as 30.11.04 instead of 3.12.04 and he added that this variance
of date could not have been the reason for not providing the information.
2. The Bench of Mrs. Annapurna Dixit, Information Commissioner, scheduled the
hearing for August 6, 2009.
3. Both the Appellant and the Respondent were absent at the hearing.
Decision
4. Keeping in view the Appellant’s prayer for relief, the Commission directs the
CPIO to provide complete information to the Appellant by 1st September,
2009 and also to show cause as to why a penalty of Rs.250/- should not be
imposed on him for not providing the information within the statutory period.
The response to this to reach the Commission by 1st September, 2009. The
appeal is accordingly disposed of.
